Small steps matter… and deserve to be celebrated

The advice…

Little things matter… celebrate the big and the small.

Where it’s coming from…

One step at a time. Slow but steady.

This is a pace I have learned to appreciate. I have had to work hard to learn to appreciate the small steps. Because the world celebrates big things: successful people, big ideas, giant leaps. The little stuff does not get the credit it deserves.

But the big stuff is often made of lots of little things. They are the stepping stones that take us from one milestone to another. Sometimes they are wobbly. Sometimes they force us to jump or hold our balance. They are often uncomfortable places to stand. As we look for the next step impatiently, we can feel frustrated and insecurities can seep in.

Sometimes, as we look at the steps ahead, it can be disheartening to fathom how we will get to the other side. It might be tempting to just head back to where we started, or just jump off with a splash.

But, as uncomfortable as it may be, there will be rewards to those who keep going. For as long as we want them to, these little stepping stones remain the way forward.

And if one of them is tough, it's okay to ask for help and hold on to someone’s hand until we feel ready to let go. The thing with these paths is that they can morph and change as they unfold before us – depending on what we want and do. One step might lead us towards an entirely different path – and it’s okay. Because when the time comes to pick between paths, all we can do is pick the one that feels right - right then. There is no way to know if the other path was better, easier, tougher than the one chosen.

If things go wrong,  we can take a step back and reconsider our decisions – and learn from them.

What’s for sure is that each stone is important. Each one leads us to the next.

I am writing this to celebrate 400 followers. No, not 500 or 1,000. 400 followers: people who chose to follow Woman Unclouded because something resonated with them. To each one I say: thank you. Because you are helping me build my dream built on the belief that I am not special because we are.

It’s been slow and steady. And I’m choosing to say ‘thank you’ with these words.

400 words. Exactly.

They matter.
