When using a public toilet, make sure you are covered before you do your business.

Where it’s coming from…

I say this from bitter experience. This is something I learnt the hard way… and wouldn’t wish the experience on anyone. And, when it comes to women and their bathroom needs, I feel the duty to share this.

I was a university student when this lesson was forever imprinted in my mind. I was doing some research in the library when I suddenly got an urgent need to use the toilet. I ran to the closest one I could think of.

By the time I realised there was no toilet paper, it was too late. I wanted to die.

I waited to ensure there was no one around before I dashed into the cubicle next door and, to my luck, found what I needed.

Now I always ensure there are the basics before I do my basics in a public toilet… if I really have to. And I feel the need to impart this knowledge to spare others the same unpleasant experience.

On the bright side, there was another lesson I took from this experience: there is always a way out of a situation, no matter how crappy if seems at the time.
