Words of women…

Woman Unclouded was born to support women by sharing experiences and expertise. In the last months, many women shared their stories and their views. So, to mark Women’s Day, here come some of the words of these wonderful women… about a range of subjects.

 On setting no time limits

“I don’t believe age should limit us. If you’re 60 and want to start a business, do it! Life isn’t a straight line—it’s full of detours.”

Ramona Depares

On looking after our mental health

“I've also always been very strict with my work-life balance, as mum's suicide showed me that life is fickle and so is mental health and once it goes, it is very hard to restore.”

Mary Mallia

 On showing up

“We may not have everything figured out—after all, you can’t predict what will happen before the end of the day—but we wake up, show up, and approach each day with the hope that it will be a good one. Don’t let self-doubt or fear hold you back from realizing the vision in your heart.”

Racheal Ikulagba

On overcoming self-doubt

“Fear and doubt are natural, and they can be helpful—they keep you grounded and prevent impulsive decisions. I make decisions based on numbers, and with my accountant, we consider multiple scenarios before moving forward.”

Krystle Penza

On living authentically

“Motherhood has made me more determined and driven. It’s also made me more aware of the importance of living authentically and following what feels true to me.”

Fabienne Buhagiar

 On appreciating where you’re at

“Daily life catches up with you, wherever you are. The grass is always greener on the other side. One need not do something as drastic as move abroad: there is value in staying put, in seeing what you have and where you are with new eyes.”

Roxanne Meilak Borg

On saying ‘no’

“If I had to look back at my childhood, I realise that – like many girls back then – I was raised to ‘be good’, ‘be nice’, ‘be helpful’... There have been times when those people have taken advantage of this and I end up kicking myself for letting it happen… I had to give advice to women now, I’d tell them: it’s okay to say ‘no’.”

Coryse Borg

On being happy in your own skin

“Life is so fast and it can be quite a chore to look the way you want to look – especially these days with social media. This is why it’s important to be happy with yourself so, if you want to spend more time on it, it’s fine. And if you don’t give a hoot, that’s fine also.”

Rosanna Stafrace

 On learning from our limits

“It is okay not to feel you know it all, it is okay to keep on learning.  It keeps you on your toes and it encourages you to set a higher bar for yourself.”

Ann Fenech

On taking time to understand what you want

“I believe in remaining genuine and true to yourself. By all costs go get it – go follow your dreams. Sit down every so often and contemplate everything – stop and think what’s important to you. Don’t just exist, be conscious.”

Becky Grech

On the power of travel

“I believe that if more people travel, there would be less racism as people would understand one another more.”

Rosanne Zammit

On accepting our humanity

“No matter who you are or what you do, there is the essential issue of being a human being. With vast complexities of feelings. Not every emotion has to be understood or categorized.”

Maira Kalman

On finding tiny glimmers of joy

“In the world of today, knowing that something is within reach and only has to be tiny to be meaningful – is really helpful. Because we keep telling women they have to do these great big practices and build all these things - which is exhausting and overwhelming and brings a survival response in the nervous system”

Deb Dana

On savouring special motherhood moments

“When you put them to sleep and they take hold of your hand, whispering their love, or when you make them laugh until you’re both gasping for breath. These are the moments we, as mothers, all live for I think.”

Roberta Azzopardi
